Sophiology skincare can be used by everyone & all skin types. Some products have recommendations for specific skin types as a guide, however most bio-organic ingredients work to utilize the body’s innate healing powers & to restore balance rather than being for only one “type”. As your skin’s need changes on a daily basis you can tailor your skincare ritual in response, using more or less or different combinations of the products.

 

Sophiology produces a wonderful range of balms, creams, butters & lotions for face & body to maintain & promote healthy, vital skin.  Many of the products are a delightful addition to the daily skincare routine

or a weekly deep cleansing & nourishing skincare ritual. Most of our products are suitable for all skin-types, whilst there are others which are created with specific skin conditions in mind. See           for ingredients which should be avoided if you have a specific condition.

 

The Sophiology range includes:

BALMS, OINTMENTS & SALVES

Oil & wax based products, they have no water component & tend to sit on the skin for a longer time providing a physical barrier to environmental irritants. Balms, ointments & salves all create an oil based film on the skin, preventing moisture escaping & delivering the beneficial properties of the oils, herbs, waxes & extracts contained in them. Sophiology balms, ointments & salves use a vegetable or nut base oil of the highest quality (often organic certified), infused with organic herbs & solidified with organic beeswax or organic vegetable or nut butters or waxes (such as shea & mango butter or soya wax). These products contain no emulsifiers nor preservatives. They have a shelf life of up to 3 years.

BASE balms, ointments & salves - contain NO added essential oils nor extracts

COMPLEX balms, ointments & salves - contain added essential oils & botanical extracts such as lavender essential oil, bentonite clay, menthol crystals etc.

 

CREAMS, BUTTERS & LOTIONS

These products all contain an oil component &  a water component, an emulsifier to create the beautiful, smooth creamy consistency of the non-miscible ingredients & a preservative to extend the shelf life to 2 years.

Products whose water component is a water infusion or decoction of organic herbs. The water used is “Willow Water” mineral water sourced locally in the Lake District. The oil component is a  base oil infused with 

organic herbs as used in our balms, salves & ointments.

 

COMPLEX CREAMS, BUTTERS & LOTIONS

As above, with added essential oils & botanical extracts.

 

SYNERGY CREAMS, BUTTERS & LOTIONS

A herb infused base oil component with an organic aromatic water component.

The use of an aromatic water deepens & broadens the action of the product as aromatic waters contains a more rounded & balanced range of plant constituents when compared with an infusion or decoction. They have no added essential oils nor extracts.
